Well, I may as well begin by explaining the puzzling title of this post. Today, I got to take a break from the crazy kindergarteners..which is a completely different story in itself. Anyways, I was a substitute teacher for the 5th grade (4 students, but one had in-school suspension) for 3 hours. They busily worked on spelling and language for about an hour straight. So, I was left with some convenient free time. I got out some paper and doodled for a while, and then I an epiphany. Courtney and I have been talking about writing some funny songs..and recording them on garage band (a voice/music recording program on her mac). I realized that was exactly what I should be doing. Thus, for the next hour, I wrote interesting rap songs on 2 tiny post it notes (the only paper I could find). As you know, all rappers have special rap names. I'm Shawty Lo, which is also the name Andy Rasala has been calling me for years. Courtney is Mami C. haha. At recess, I found Court and performed what I had written..she laughed till she cried. When we got home tonight, we went straight for the computer and began our recording process. We only did the beginning of one song..but its good. I mean reallllll good. Hopefully, there is some way to put them on here for all of you to enjoy.
Now, I'm going to fill you in on some everyday life details.
Yesterday, our lazy day, I baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I had 4 yesterday and 6 today. These aren't small cookies, mind you. So, I'm definitely getting my fill of sweets.
I like organic and non toxic foods...for the most part..and I also like to drink apple cider vinegar, knowing that it rids the body of toxins. Courtney has also started become a acv drinker. Last night, she dared me to drink 1 cup of it. For those of you who are not aware, acv is nasssstyy. It's so bitter/tart/gross that you can't help but make scary faces. I'm not talking a frown or sad face...I'm talking faces from "The Ring." Seizure faces. You may be thinking, "this doesn't seem right." Well, it's actually really funny to watch someone drink it. Especially a rookie. I'm a seasoned pro, and Court is well on her way. But, drinkin 1 cup is realllllly pushing the limits. But, I never back down from a dare..or a fight. So, I did it. Holy crap. I've never felt so sick. My stomach burned, fizzed, and did summersaults. First of all, I almost ralphed in the sink as I drank it, of course Court was laughing at me. Then, I was sure it was coming back up..so I spent some time in the bathroom. It stayed down, but I promise, I will never do that again. Sorry for all the gross/weird details of that experience, but it was a big event in our day. haha.
Our washing machine is leaking from the cold water valve. It has been for 24 hours now. We informed Ray, the maintenance guy and Betty the prinicipal's husband, about the leak today. But, it went under a wall, into my room, and soaked blankets and a book that were sitting on the floor.
We have tiled floor everywhere...so obviously, Courtney and I feel the need to exaggerate the pitter patter of our feet when we walk. In fact, Court likes to run up behind me all the time and scare me. We have found that tile floor is also nice for dancing. All kinds of dancing, crip walking, and ballet...yes, we are 19 and 20 years old. But we must be creative to entertain ourselves, K?
Recess. Our favorite time of day. Courtney and I have unofficially become the game coordinators at recess. We organize school wide races, not just straight up running though. We have them skip, hop, run backwards, walk/run...everything you can imagine, we've done it. The kids love it. We didn't do races today though. Instead, we played with one of my favorite students, Lyle. He deserves a detailed description, and so do you. Lyle's a kindergartener, wears sweat pants everyday, and is big for his age..not in height. I don't mean that in a disrespectful or hurtful way, I just mean...he's a big kid. It's reality. He also doesn't talk much, likes to hug me often, has anger issues, but at the same time, is incredibly cute. Anyways, Lyle was trying to climb a flag pole..and getting absolutely nowhere. So, Courtney and I offered to play with him. He silently agreed, and led us to the monkey bars. He climbed like crazy, and nearly fell off many times. Courtney and I were picking up other kids to reach the monkey bars, and Lyle saw this, and wanted us to pick him up too. C and I just looked at eachother..trying not to laugh (not at Lyle, but at the situation). We knew it was going to be incredibly challenging to lift big Lyle up that high. But, we couldn't let him down. So, we bent our knees, grunted, and by some act of God, Lyle was suddenly holding onto the monkey bar above our heads. It was hilarious. Until, Lyle fell off, and wanted back up. This happened 4 times. By the end of recess..C and I were beat. But, it was worth it to see little..or should I say big Lyle smile.
One last thing, there is a kid in my class named Levander, who rides sheep in rodeos on the weekends. He's in the top 5 sheep riders on the rez...and also 5 years old! He wears cowboy clothes and big shiny belt buckles. Idk..its cute and a interesting example of the culture here.
Alright..I'm blogged out. Courtney and I are going to watch some Seinfeld and probably go to bed. More blogging tomorrow...if the internet chooses to cooperate.
love,
Lo

i agree with jordan...if you ever have a chance to and are allowed to snap a pic of both lyle and levander in his rodeo attire, i would greatly appreciate it.
also, i do not recall receiving any video messages yet, so these raps would definitely be a good reason to get on that asap.
and lauren, you kill me with these blogs. i'm sitting at basketball practice right now, trying to contain my laughter. i'm afraid that pretty soon my laughter will become uncontrollable and my coach is going to have to stop practice because i'm too distracting. but that's okay...count it as a compliment and keep it up!
love you and miss you girls!
i wish i could be there with you!
